A domestic disagreement over a kitchen appliance went viral after a man in Guangdong allegedly trashed his living room upon discovering his wife had purchased a dishwasher without his prior consent

The dispute, triggered by a 1,500 yuan (RM980) appliance, has sparked an intense debate on Chinese social media regarding household roles, financial stress, and domestic behaviour.

Because the wife's phone was with her husband at the time, he answered the call and immediately attempted to cancel the order. Despite his objections, the wife allowed the technician to proceed with the installation.

When the husband returned home to find the installer drilling holes in the kitchen, he reportedly lost his temper. He ordered the technician to leave immediately and threatened to smash the machine.

According to a video shared by the wife, the argument spilled into the living room, where household items were left strewn across the floor.

The wife argued the purchase was necessary because it was too cold to wash dishes by hand during the winter while caring for their two children. The husband reportedly earns 11,000 yuan (RM7,200) a month, but the family is currently managing significant debt, as reported by South China Morning Post.

However, the wife noted that her husband does not participate in dishwashing duties. She speculated that his resentment might stem from a period last year when she was unable to work due to illness.

Following the incident, the wife stayed at a hotel for a night to de-escalate the situation

Upon her return, the husband greeted her with a hug and an apology, which was captured in a follow-up video.

In a surprising turn, the husband claimed he wasn't actually upset about the cost of the unit, but rather the lack of communication. He has since promised to work on his temper and suggested they buy a smaller, more practical model instead.

The couple, married for 10 years, eventually released a joint video thanking netizens for their concern and chalked the event up to "poor communication".
